So as I said I wanted to try my hand at cupcaking. Yesterday I ventured out and tried it. Yes it was box, yes it was canned frosting..but so what, you have to start somewhere...right? I decided to make cupcakes Easter baskets, which I thought would be easy for a first timer like myself. I baked the cupcakes as normal, added a little green dye to my vanilla frosting (for grass) and set up my candies...I was ready to roll!! Since yesterday was Easter I had been chosen to bake the macaroni and cheese for our family dinner, so I did that as my soon to be master piece was cooling. I wanted to use a frosting bag to decorate them but soon realized that, that was NOT going to work. So I put the frosting on as normal, added my little Starburst jelly beans, and here's were my problem came in....the recipe didn't tell you how to apply the licorice handle. Just my luck, right? Soooo, I did what any person would do, I attempted to jam them into the cupcakes...well that didn't quite work out for me. I then grew a brain and cut slits on each side of the cupcakes, which did make it A LOT easier to insert the licorice (Twizzler pull apart candy)...dabbed a little more frosting around the handle and TAAA-DAAA they were finished. Now in my excitement and running late (as always) I forgot to take a picture, but this is what they looked like...just imagine it with frosting instead of coconut.
BTY...the family LOVED them and thought they were cute...that could be a bias opinion but I'LL TAKE IT!!
